Is it worth reading?
Yes — definitely worth reading if you enjoy dark, twisty crime thrillers, especially if you’re already a fan of Washington Poe and Tilly Bradshaw.
📖 Spoiler-free synopsis
In The Killer’s Mark, Washington Poe and Tilly Bradshaw have left the National Crime Agency and started their own private-investigation business. Their new career takes an unexpected turn when a teenage girl, Esmerée Blue, arrives asking them to find her mother, whom she has long believed to be dead.
What initially looks like a missing-person case soon pulls Poe and Tilly into a much darker world involving trafficking, pornography, prostitution, organized crime, and murder. Meanwhile, a horrifying discovery made five years earlier has connections to the case Poe is now investigating.

⚠️ One important thing
This is Book 8 in the Washington Poe series. While some readers say it can technically be read alone, I’d strongly recommend reading the series in order. There are substantial character histories, ongoing relationships, and references to previous cases that will make much more sense if you’ve read the earlier books.
Best starting point: The Puppet Show, Book 1.
