Yes — especially if you already enjoyed Moonflower.
This sequel seems to lean harder into the elements readers were waiting for: Saya and Serun, vampire politics, magic, the Undercity, danger, possessiveness, and darker romance. The official description places Saya as the Vampire Lord’s wife/consort and has her trapped in the Undercity while her magic remains dormant.
And the author’s own trope list is basically a warning label for the romance: “One Coffin,” “She is Mother (Still),” “Love Chomps,” “Thigh Bites,” “Pierced Peen,” “Yearning,” “Touch HIM and…,” and “Only Kneels for Her.”
Read Moonflower first.
Vervain is not a book I’d recommend jumping into independently. It’s explicitly Book 2, and its premise assumes you’ve experienced Saya’s relationship with the mysterious nightwalker and the events of the first book.
Also, this is dark romantasy/horror, not a fluffy vampire romance. Reader reviews of Moonflower flag gore, violence, sexual content, sexual assault, and murder, so readers who are sensitive to darker material should check the content warnings.
